In it, he writes, "Smelling a delightful aroma can be a very pleasurable experience, but can it be measured scientifically? Over the past 20 years International Flavors & Fragrances Inc. (IFF) has been working to refine its methods of measuring both the subjective and physiological effects of aromas and fragrances on emotions."

A registered company is named "SCENTBIRD" has a website in the Internet. It is "scentbird.com". In it the readers are informed: "Aromatherapy is sometimes used as an alternative medicine process to enhance one’s mood and overall general well-being." [1]
This site also notes: "Breathe in the scents of various perfumes and fragrances, then go by your own personal instincts as to which fragrance you think will not only make you smell lovely but that might also offer some added aromatherapy benefits." [1]
Mariya Nurislamova is CEO & Co-Founder, Sergei Gusev is Founder & COO and Andrei Rebrov is Founder & CTO at Scentbird.
On May 30, 2017, the Scentbird's website published an article entitled " Discover How Your Perfume Affects Your Mood". This article raised this question: Can fragrance change my mood? [1]
This article provides this information: "According to some studies, yes, fragrance can both affect and change your mood. Not only does fragrance affect mood, but it can actually enhance work performance and behavior in various ways." [1]
It adds, "It almost seems magical, but according to science, the fragrance is not working on “us.” We work on the fragrance through life experiences with them." [1]
According to this article which was published in the scentbird's website certain fragrances may trigger certain feelings and emotions for different people. What might bring peace and serenity to some, many not be the same for others.[1]
For a response to a question "How does perfume affect my mood?, this article delivers the following answer: "Many perfumes and fragrances offer a sort of aromatherapy quality and effect, and can easily work to alter the mood." [1]
It goes on to add this: " Knowing that fragrances have this power to alter and affect mood, perfume companies and fragrance companies work." [1]
The website of this company [i.e., SCENTBIRD) continues: " Some of the positive mood change benefits that you can expect to find from a perfume with aromatherapy qualities include:
•Increased alertness
•Invigoration
•Uplifting mood
•Relaxation
•Feeling motivated [1]

On December 18, Andrea Felsted and Sarah Halzack write an article entitled "Millennials Don’t Want to Smell Like Celebs Anymore" in which they note, "The $49.4 billion global perfume market has some ground to cover. Over the past few years, the need to get Instagram-ready drove a boom in color cosmetics, and more recently skincare." [2]
The authors of this article add, "The perfume industry has lagged behind skincare and cosmetics. To catch up, the mass market has to learn the tricks of the luxury trade." [2]
The writers state, " The luxury and personalized products are growing quickly. If they are to reinvigorate sluggish demand, companies such as Revlon and Coty Inc., which have mid-market brands in their portfolios, will also need to find ways for affordable scents to smell a little more expensive." [2]

On 4 October 2017, Chris Johnston (BBC), Business reporter published this report: "Why big brand perfumes may be losing their allure" and asked corporate giants such as Estee Lauder, L'Oreal and Coty have dominated the fragrance market, but could that be about to change? [3]
Mr. Johnston cites Michael Edwards, publisher of global perfume database Fragrances of the World as saying, "Some consumers are favouring niche and artisan fragrance brands like Gallivant because they offer something special that none of their friends will have.
He [i.e. Michael Edwards] believes that innovation in the sector is coming from smaller brands because the big players are afraid of taking risks." [3]
According to Mr. Edwards, "The big brands want a new launch to appeal to as wide a range of consumers as possible, meaning they often produce something "bland"... [The future] lies in bespoke - younger people want something of their own. While marketing is crucial, word of mouth is even more crucial". [3]
The article says, "he fact that some of the bigger names in the industry are struggling suggests he may be right.Even Coty - the New York beauty brand behind famous names such as Calvin Klein, Marc Jacobs, Gucci, Hugo Boss and Chloe - has faced headwinds this year.[3]
